My approach is person-centered. You’re the expert of your life and my role is to support you in your development. I’m here to help you find your strengths and resources, in order to investigate the changes you want to see in your life. Because everyone is unique, I draw from a number of clinical techniques and approaches that encourage self-awareness of thoughts, behaviours and emotions. Therapeutic approaches include cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), EDMR, family systems, solution-focused, trauma-informed and humanistic. I am an empathetic listener, but my style is also straightforward and practical.
I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with a Masters in Clinical Psychology and a BA in Psychology. In the first half of my professional career I was an entrepreneur and small business owner. After completing an MBA in Leadership – which focussed on organizing, motivating and working with people in the workplace – it became clear that I excel at the working with people part. Listening, understanding, and knowing what each person needs has been integral to my business’ success. A desire use this skill to help others in a more fulfilling way led to me pursuing counselling as a second career.
I am also a mother of two school-aged children. When I became a parent, I immersed myself in all the parenting books, as well as seminars and workshops, to help us navigate this unfamiliar and overwhelming world. While I still love getting my hands on a new parenting book, my kids are the ones that are teaching me about life and love every day. Understanding relationships with loved ones has become my passion, and the focus of my practice.
