Everything is so uncertain these days it’s really hard to stay grounded and manage our own emotions and anxiety.
This article from The Gottman Institute by Dr. Ann-Louise Lockhart has some good points about talking to our children and teens about uncertainty. I think it’s helpful for adults as well. To say that 2020 has been a challenging year would be an understatement!
As parents, caregivers, teachers, and adults, it is important to teach children the value of being adaptable to changing conditions. In fact, teaching them how to do this is a remarkable gift.
I like the examples about having a flexible mindset—life doesn’t always work out the way we expect and we are not always going to experience comfortable feelings. That’s okay. It’s hard but most feelings don’t stay the same.
